Bessie on the Highway!

Today we made our way into Indiana!  Mom kept looking around wondering when it was going to get flat and all of the sudden it was as flat as a pancake!  Mom said it was giving her vertigo it was so flat.  For those of you following this from flatter parts of the country, no laughing at us, we're used to being surrounded by mountains.  It was so strange to drive on the road because it almost looked like a mirage or as if we were driving into water!  Also parts of the highway were lined with wind turbines which I'd never seen up close before, they are huge!!!!

If you look at the title, this really happened!  I never thought it would.  Turns out Backroads Bessie was reading an old map and thought that Rt 30 was a red road (or 2-lane road).  She thought it was a 4 lane road that was supposed to turn into a 2 lane road after a few miles.  Four hours later and it's still a 4 lane highway, and was all the way until we got to the motel.  The joke was on her!  Unfortunately she found her new map and it doesn't look like I'll get so lucky tomorrow...

On to Illinois tomorrow and into Missouri on Wednesday.  The kids are doing remarkably well.  Jeremiah made the comment today that, "this doesn't look anything like home!"  He's right, we're in the middle of the country and it really doesn't look anything like home anymore.

Also, mom has decided to only follow the GPS (or Greta Van GPStern) when it is convenient for her (meaning avoiding highways).  Oh well, it helps us find the gas stations and restaurants!

Until tomorrow,

Mere

PS - No pictures today, hopefully I'll have some for tomorrow.
